Cottage conversion – North lakes

Type Conversion
Completed 2009

This project involved the conversion of a derelict range of rural farm buildings to provide 4 self-catering holiday cottages and 1 new build 5-bedroom home with associated office space for Carrock Design and Build and Carrock Homes.

We wanted the finished project to have a secluded and safe environment for a luxury holiday stay on the undiscovered northern fringe of the Lake District National Park. The cottages achieved a 5-star Gold rating although they now are rented out with year long tenants in occupancy.

We installed a turf roof, site biomass boiler, and an air source heat pump. These technologies are regularly used to demonstrate the potential of these products to our guests and business clients.

We also incorporated renewable wind technology into our business and the site with a 25kw wind turbine sensitively sited to minimise visual impact. The electricity generated powers one of our electric Nissan NV200 vehicles.
