Character extension – Penrith

Type Refurbishment
Completed 2012

Our client brief on this project was ‘we do not want an octagonal plastic conservatory’. The client didn’t get one.

We centred the design to give as much natural light as possible into the existing building.

We used traditional techniques using stone, slate and oak as construction materials along with a wood burning stove to fully integrate the new space into the function of the larger house rather than being an occasional room when the weather is right. Views from the new building run into the adjacent woodland where deer often grazed in the mornings and early evening along with open access into the patio and garden.
